NYX Matte not Flat Foundation Review

Heyy gang!

The struggle as an oily and sometimes dry girl to find a decent foundation that stays all day, doesn’t turn shiny and slide off is real. I’ve tried so many foundations over my 12 years of using makeup; both drugstore and high end. Mostly drugstore as I am a mum on a budget. There are foundations that I like however they still aren’t absolutely perfect.

Back in April I had a makeover at the NYX counter in the Arndale Shopping Centre in Manchester, the staff were lovely and I would definitely go back again if I want to learn anything else or try any new products out. She showed me a great range of products that day and my favourite was the NYX stay matte but not flat liquid foundation. I had a match test done and I was matched with 04 Ivory. This is a perfect match for me as I am quite pale and often look ill. I’m not its just my skin tone.

The foundation claims it is:

‘Oil free, water based, full coverage, mineral-enriched, matte finish’

I didn’t buy the foundation right there and then as I wanted to test it throughout the day. and then go back if I liked it. I actually fell in love with it. The colour match as I’ve said was perfect and it stayed that way all day. It didn’t oxidise and go that orangey colour as some foundations tend to do (Maybelline I’m looking at you here). I use this product at home with a damp complexion sponge and it blends out so smoothly and even. This foundation didn’t settle into my dry patches and left me with a nice even canvas to do my make up on.

The premise is in the name of this product: matte not flat. With so many make up companies who promise us girls who want to be matte their new magic formaulas i’m often left disappointed in how the product looks and feels on my face. This foundation however left me feeling really pleased and that they had actually done exactly what was said on the tube so to speak. Although you only get 35ml in a tube a little really does go a long way.

The lasting finish on this foundaiton is also amazing. I have to say I did use primer and also powder to set but thats what I always do with every foundation I use/try so it was still a fair test if I may say so myself. The foudation still looked well at dinner time and then again at 4pm when I went to check on it. It wasn’t as perfect as when I first applied it in the morning but I still had a decent amount of coverage.  This is definitely the best matte foundation that I’ve tried.
